Basics of Drawing, taught by Ellen Schwarzbek

Drawing is the foundation of all the visual arts.
This class is for beginners and for those who want to refresh their skills in seeing what they wish to draw. Each Saturday morning we will set up a still life and study it carefully, emphasizing one of the following approaches:
1. Perspective
2. Composition with negative space.
3. Light and form.
You will not come away with pretty pictures, but you will understand better the process of drawing.
Students should bring several sheets of drawing paper, pencil or charcoal, and a good eraser.

Basic Jewelry Techniques for Beginners, taught by P.L. Rhodes
Three Tuesdays, November 4, 11, and 18 6pm to 9pm
Class: $75 for FCA members, $90 for non-members. Materials fee: $25
Registration deadline is October 24. Class space is limited to six students, so please register early. Ages 16 to adult.
We will complete one piece of jewelry, a pendant (for necklace, key rings, etc.) or a pair of earrings. We will work in copper, the most inexpensive and easiest metal to work with. Copper will be supplied by the instructor. Those who choose to make earrings will be charged an additional $1 for silver wire.
A kit with necessary tools will cost $25 (with three students): Saw frame and blades, half-round file, bench pin, sandpaper, steel wool.

Tapestry Weaving, Taught by Genie Greenlaw
Two Saturdays, Nov 15 and Dec. 13 1:00 – 3:00
Class - $30 Materials fee - $20
Please sign up by November 7. . Ages 16 to adult
First session---Students will weave a sampler on pre-strung cardboard looms, and then practice with different sizes of weaving yarns on a second pre-made loom. Printed diagrams and material/equipment sources handouts will be given to students to take home.
Second session---Students will learn how to prepare wooden frame looms (no nails) for weaving and will begin to weave chosen design.

Creating a Surface Using Acrylic Paints and Joint Compound. Taught by Andrew Atkin Saturday and Sunday, November 22 and 23, 2:00 to 4:30

In this weekend workshop students will work with joint compound and acrylic paint to create varied surface effects on canvas or panel.
Andrew Atkin is a painter well known for experimenting with all kinds of techniques and images for about 35 years.
He earned a BFA with honors in painting from Eastern Kentucky University and a Masters in fine art from Western Carolina University. He has taught fine art at community colleges in the area (WPCC, CCC&TI, and CVCC,) Suzuki School of the Arts and privately at his home. Andy’s work can be seen in several galleries and in many private and corporate collections
